Hello there,
Welcome to-day 5 of 12 Days of Christmas!
I feel like these past couple of years, there’s been so many new beauty releases, left right and centre. I don’t know about anybody else but I definitely don’t have enough money to purchase everything that catches my eye. If I’m going to buy something that’s a bit more on the pricey side I do some research first, such as checking out reviews. That’s why I thought I’d do this post. I also love seeing other people’s favourites of the year and seeing what they would recommend to others.
I’m not going to do any of these in a particular order, as I don’t think I’d be able to pick one! These are all products that have been released this past year or I discovered in 2018.
Brows
Anastasia Dip Brow pomade in Soft Brown
This is no joke but it has changed my brow game. I was given this for Christmas last year, but I’m still counting it, as it was towards the end of 2017. This shade is slightly too dark for me, but I just have to be careful not to use too much as a little bit goes a long way. I’ve had it for almost a year and it still hasn’t dried out!
*Essence Make Me brow gel
This holds my brow hairs in place really well. The shade selection isn’t great for me, as the lighter one is too light and the one I use is darker than I’d like.
Face
Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot primer
I purchased this because of a recommendation from one of my favourite YouTuber. This lasts a really long time and it’s really good if you have oily skin. It keeps your makeup on much longer and your pores are filled in a small bit as well.
Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in green
I was so excited for this to be released because I love the original version and I wanted to give this a go. Ever since I got my hands on it I haven’t put it down. I use this after primer but before foundation, as it covers up the green tinge. Green is used to cover up redness, so I feel that it makes my spots less obvious.
Revolution Conceal and Define concealer in C2
Now, when this was released the world and their mother went mad for it. I haven’t tried the Tarte Shape Tape concealer, as you can’t get it here in Ireland, but it’s meant to a dupe of it. The coverage in this is A-MAZ-ING, the price too! It lasts for ages as well. I highly suggest you go and pick up one for yourself, maybe even two.
Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation in 200 Soft Beige
I feel that some people like this foundation and some people don’t, I think it just depends on the person. This isn’t my correct shade, I use this when my tan is fading or if I put on a lighter shade of tan. I just feel that it’s a really good coverage foundation and I love how it looks on the skin. It doesn’t feel very heavy or cakey either, which I like.
Wet n Wild Photofocus foundation in Soft Ivory
This is my usual go to foundation, the shade is slightly too yellow for me, but once I blend it down my neck, you can’t tell. It is also very pale, so I have to make sure to put on lots of bronzer. I think this a more medium coverage foundation. I love how you can still faintly see my freckles.
NYX Wonder Stick in Light/Medium
I don’t do cream contour that often, but when I do I use this one. It’s so much easier to use as it’s a stick instead of a palette. I find it really easy to blend too. I actually haven’t used the other side of it which is the highlight/consealer. I just personally prefer to use liquid instead of sticks, but I really should just give it a go and see.
Catrice Nude Illusion loose powder in Transparent Matte
The pressed version of this is really popular, but I wanted to try a new loose powder. This was the only powder I used to set my face make up for months, but I’m not going to lie, I haven’t been too sure about it recently. One of the days I used it I got flashback, which I didn’t think this powder did. I’m still deciding what I think about it because of that. I still put it in here, because as I said I did love it for ages.
Revolution X Soph highlighter palette
This is an amazing highlighter palette, it’s part of a collection with yet another of my favourite Youtubers. I love all the different shades in it and also how some are more out there than others. the price is crazy for the fact that you just get eight different shades.
C.Y.O When the Sun Don’t Shine bronzer in Medium
I only discovered this recently enough, but I do like it so far. It blends really easily and the shade is really good for warming the skin. This is from a new brand that launched this year in Boots.
*P.S Pure highlighter in Arctic Ice (sadly this collection isn’t in Penny’s anymore)
This highlighter mixed with one from the highlighter palette I mentioned earlier is a dream! It is too dark for my normal skin tone, so I have to either mix it or use it with my tan foundation. Even though you can’t get it anymore I still put it in because Penny’s can have other hidden gems like this one.
Eyes
*Essence Lash Princess mascara
This was also a recommendation from a Youtuber and the next product was too. This makes my lashes look so much longer. The wand is really easy to use and the formula doesn’t get all clumpy on my lashes. It’s so cheap as well!
*Essence Liquid Ink eyeliner
This changed my life. Before this liner I couldn’t really do eyeliner I was all over the place with it. Since I’ve purchased this I haven’t looked back. My eyeliner game has changed for the better. The formula is jet black and it doesn’t crack. The brush is so so easy to use. It only costs around €3, so it doesn’t break the bank. I don’t think I’ll ever stop using this. I haven’t bought any other liquid eyeliner since I discovered this.
NYX Ultimate Bright eyeshadow palette
I actually got this for free because I saved up my Boots points and I claimed this. I think if you wanted to get into coloured eyeshadow, then this is the palette to start off with. Most of the shades are matte, which are the shades I would use the most and you get a good variety of different shades. I’ve heard that neon eyeshadows are hard to make, and the neon orange in the bottom, I think is quite good. There’s so many different looks to create with this!
*P.S Single eyeshadows
These are only €1 each and the pigmentation is really good in them. I think that the matte shades are much better than the shimmer shades. You can really build them up nicely and they blend really well.
*P.S Eye Pigment in Mink Pink
This is only €2.50 and it lasts ages. I have a few of these and for the price you really can’t go wrong. I think they have around four or five different shades out at once. These are a pretty good dupe of Inglot pigments.
Inglot AMC Pure Pigment Shadow in No. 57
In Ireland, Inglot are pretty much known for their eyeshadows and pigments. A pigment is like a loose glitter, but much better. I absolutely love the ones from Inglot, there’re honestly incredible and well worth the money. This is probably shocking, but I only purchased one towards the end of last year.
Lips
Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in No.18 Addication
I love the packaging of this lip liner, it’s so easy to apply. I use this shade for almost all my lip products. I will say that it does tend to break really easily as the formula is so soft.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm
This has been my favourite lip product of the year. This product is just fantastic. It’s matte, but it doesn’t dry out your lips at all because it’s a cream formula. It lasts really well too. This shade in particular is similar to my lip colour, so if it wears off, it isn’t as obvious.
*I couldn’t find a link to these products, as Essence isn’t sold online, but you can purchase them in Penny’s/ Primark. P.S is also from Penny’s/ Primark as it’s their own brand, therefore there’s no place to purchase these online.
All of these products I would recommend trying, as they are all well worth the money, in my opinion. I will say that they may not work for you, because of different skin types, coverage preference etc.
Have you tried any of these products before? What’s your opinion on them? Let me know in the comments. Don’t forget you can follow me over on Instagram and Twitter, you can find the links here.
